Chris Lilley, who also stars in the show, is the creator of the mockumentary series Angry Boys, which airs on Australian television. The show continues the mockumentary format of his earlier series and investigates the challenges that young men confront in the 21st century, including the influences and pressures they are under, as well as the dreams and goals they have for themselves. In the film Angry Boys, Lilley plays a number of different characters, including S.mouse, an American rapper, Jen, a manipulative Japanese mother, Blake Oakfield, a champion surfer, Ruth "Gran" Sims, a guard at a juvenile detention facility, and her grandchildren, South Australian twins Daniel and Nathan Sims. Co-produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the cable television network HBO in the United States, the series has already been pre-sold to the British television station BBC Three. Angry Boys, which was shot in Melbourne, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, had its world premiere on ABC1 on May11,2011, at 9:00 pm.
