Anne returns to Avonlea after Marilla Cuthbert's death. Gilbert gets a job in a New York hospital and convinces Anne to go. He gets her a job in publishing. They weren't expecting city life. Jack Garrison steals Anne's manuscript. Thus, the stage is set for a final three-hour "Anne of Green Gables" installment that follows the characters from New York to Europe and back to Prince Edward Island.
