Are You Afraid of the Dark? is a horror/fantasy anthology television series produced by both Canada and the United States. The original series was co-produced by Cinar in Canada and Nickelodeon in the United States. The show was shot in Richmond, British Columbia, and Montreal, Quebec, as well as their surrounding suburbs. The pilot episode "The Tale of the Twisted Claw" broadcast on October31, 1991 in the United States and in October 1990 in Canada. Do You Hate the Dark? From August15, 1992 through April20,1996, it aired on Nickelodeon's SNICK. From October30, 1990 to June11,2000, the series broadcast on the Canadian television network YTV. Nickelodeon produced a resurrected series with new directors, writers, and actors from 1999 to2000, which also broadcast on SNICK. Tucker was the only original cast member to return for the sixth and seventh seasons, however Ross Hull returned for the final miniseries, which deviated from the show's established pattern by blurring the boundary between plot and "reality."
