Arena

From 2002 to 2004, the television show Arena on G4 and G4techTV focused on competitive video gaming and was broadcast. The program was structured in the shape of a local area network (LAN) party, in which different teams competed against one another in various multiplayer video games available at the time. A ongoing tournament structure was used for a good deal of the episodes of the series. Unreal Tournament 2004 and Call of Duty are two examples of video games that have episodes that overlap. In addition, each team is given the opportunity to speak about themselves and shed some light on the story behind their team name. In 2004, Team ZoMBiE became the Ultimate Arena Champions by virtue of their victory in the Tournament of Champions. Team Kaizen became the Ultimate Arena Champions after they triumphed at the Tournament of Champions in the year 2005. Wil Wheaton and Travis Oates were the initial hosts of the show, but both of them resigned because of disagreements with the program's producer, Jim Downs. Wheaton made many of these disagreements public in a blog that he made on Slashdot.com. Lee Reherman and Michael Louden took their place as a replacement for them. Reherman and Kevin Pereira served as the hosts for the conclusion of the show. Studio 2 served as the setting for the production of the first two seasons. Filming relocated into studio 3, which was the largest studio in G4's original headquarters, in the year 2004, for the third and last season of the show. After it was made known that the show would be canceled as a direct result of the TechTV buyout, the producers of the series decided to save a few episodes for later use. However, in July of 2004, they decided to scrap the set in order to make room for three shows that were previously owned by TechTV: X-Play, The Screen Savers, and Unscrewed with Martin Sargent.
