Asylum is a British comedy series that was shown on the Paramount Comedy Channel in 1996. It took place in a mental hospital and had six episodes in one season. Unlike traditional sitcoms or comedy TV shows, it gave some comedians a chance to do stand-up routines while also telling a story with a lot of dark humor. It is important because it features a lot of British comedians, many of whom went on to work on some of the most popular comedy shows of the last 10 years. It was the first time Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Jessica Stevenson worked together. They later made the cult comedy Spaced. A lot of the names of the characters were the same as the names of the actors who played them. David Devant & His Spirit Wife was the "house band" for the show. They played segments from their first album, Work, Lovelife, Miscellaneous, in every episode. The title music for the show was the intro song "Ginger." The series isn't out on DVD yet, but you can watch the full episodes on Norman Lovett's website.
