American firm BattleBots organizes robot competitions. BattleBots is the name of both the competition and the television show based on the competition video. BattleBots Inc. has its headquarters in Vallejo, California, and the majority of its tournaments are held in the San Francisco metropolitan region. In a BattleBots competition, the adversaries are remote-controlled armed and armored machines built for arena combat elimination. The winner is selected by a point system based on damage, aggression, and strategy if both combat robots remain operational at the conclusion of the encounter. BattleBots broadcast for five seasons on the American cable network Comedy Central, spanning five BattleBots competitions. The first season premiered in August of2000, while the fifth season premiered in August of 2002. BattleBots was hosted by Bil Dwyer and Sean Salisbury, with former Baywatch actresses Donna D'Errico, Carmen Electra, and Traci Bingham, former Playboy Playmate Heidi Mark, and identical twins Randy and Jason Sklar serving as reporters. Bill Nye was the "technical expert" on the show. In late2002, after five "seasons," Comedy Central cancelled their deal with BattleBots Inc.
