Ted Turner, Robert Larkin III, and Barbara Pyle are credited with the creation of the animated television series Captain Planet and the Planeteers in the United States. The series was produced by Barbara Pyle, Nicholas Boxer, Andy Heyward, and Robby London, and it was developed by Barbara Pyle, Nicholas Boxer, Andy Heyward, Robby London, Thom Beers, Bob Forward, Phil Harnage, and Cassandra Schafhausen. TBS began airing the series on September 15, 1990, and continued to do so until December 5, 1992. The series was created by Turner Program Services and DIC Entertainment, and it was aired on TBS. Hanna-Barbera and Turner Program Services collaborated to create a follow-up television series called The New Adventures of Captain Planet, which was aired beginning on September 11, 1993 and continuing until May 11, 1996. Both of these series are still airing today on syndication. This program is an example of educational entertainment that also promotes green living. On their website, Mother Nature Network began broadcasting episodes of Captain Planet and the Planeteers in February 2009, along with previously unseen video from the show. In September of 2010, with the help of Pyle, the Planeteer Movement was established as a way for fans of the show to connect with one another and to continue to incorporate the show's principles into their lives as real-life Planeteers.
