Collision is a five-part TV drama miniseries that debuted on ITV and UTV in November 2009. In the same month, it was also on PBS as a two-part series. It tells the story of a group of strangers whose lives become intertwined after a terrible car crash. The crash leads to a number of shocking discoveries, such as stories of government cover-ups, smuggling, embezzlement, and murder. There are a lot of unanswered questions in the series, and the story is ostensibly resolved in a metafictional way with a flashback to an incident in the gas station and the swatting of a wasp, which led to the first crash and let the characters continue on their journeys. The wasp shows up often as a motif and theme throughout the series. The first British broadcast of Collision was cut down from five hours to three and a half. The shortened version was shown on Masterpiece Contemporary on PBS in the U.S., on ABC1 in Australia, and on the Region 1 DVD. Collision was shown in its original format of five 45-minute episodes on Tuesday, March15, 2011 on Foxtel and Austar's W Channel in Australia.
