The show began for a limited time from October to November2004, then returned the following February. Seven Network has renewed the series for a ninth season. The show is a ratings hit, averaging over 2 million viewers per week during its height, making it the number one show of the day. The show matches celebrities with professional ballroom dancers who compete in a dance-off each week to impress a panel of judges and, ultimately, the viewing public in order to avoid elimination. Viewers vote for the couple they believe should continue in the competition by phone and SMS voting. When choosing which couple is eliminated, the judges' scores are mixed with the viewer votes.
