Normal Japanese sixth-grader Naota is a bit pessimistic, but other than that, he leads a very typical life. However, when Naota's elder brother moves to the United States to play baseball, Naota's brother abandons his 17-year-old fiancée Mamimi. Mamimi is giving Naota conflicting signals and making overtures toward him, and he is at a loss as to how to respond to her. But to make matters even worse, Naota's world is completely turned upside down when he is ran over by a woman on a Vespa. This completely alters the trajectory of his life. When they first met, she used her guitar to beat him in the head, which resulted in a horn emerging from his forehead. This was the first time they had interacted. Naota's life becomes even more deranged as a result of her presence, and she refers to herself as "Haruko."
