Get a Life was a Fox Network sitcom that ran from September23,1990, to March8,1992, in the United States. Chris Elliott plays Chris Peterson, a 30-year-old paperboy. Peterson shared an apartment with his parents over their garage. To the show's theme music, "Stand" by R.E.M., the opening credits show Chris Peterson distributing newspapers on his bike. Elliott, Adam Resnick, and David Mirkin collaborated on the show. Mirkin directed the majority of the episodes and served as executive producer/showrunner for the series. Charlie Kaufman, who wrote the screenplay for Being John Malkovich, and Bob Odenkirk, who co-created Mr. Show with Bob and David and Tenacious D, were among the series' notable writers. The show was out of the ordinary for a prime-time sitcom, with strange storylines on several occasions. In twelve episodes, for example, Elliott's character dies. Old age, tonsillitis, stab wounds, gunshot wounds, falling out of an airplane, strangled, being run over by cars, choking on cereal, and simply exploding were among the reasons of death. As a result, getting the show on the air proved difficult for Elliott and Mirkin. Many Fox Network execs despised the show and thought Elliott's character was nuts.
