Ghostbusters is an animated TV show made by Filmation and distributed by Tribune Entertainment. It came out after the success of the 1984 movie Ghostbusters, which was made by Ivan Reitman and Columbia Pictures. It aired in daytime from September 8 to December 5, 1986, for a total of 65 episodes. The cartoon was based on The Ghost Busters, a live-action TV show from 1975. It shouldn't be confused with The Real Ghostbusters, an animated show based on the 1984 movie Ghostbusters. Columbia Pictures had to get permission from Filmation to use the name for its movie. After Ghostbusters was a hit, Filmation started making an animated series based on the characters from its series. Technically, the series is just called "Ghostbusters," but "Filmation's Ghostbusters" was used for home video releases to avoid confusion. There are currently reruns of the show on Qubo Night Owl and the Retro Television Network. The show is also available on Hulu.
