However, he has a goal to accomplish and a commitment to keep, and in order to do that, he will need money. His first plan to get it will be to take part in the recent gold rush that occurred in Hokkaido and test his luck, but fate has prepared for him a challenge that is both more exciting and more lucrative at the same time. The weird man's eyes light up as he listens to the tale of how a criminal stole a significant sum of gold from a group of Ainu in order to subsequently hide his plunder from the authorities. Is it a fictitious account? The man informs him that the only way to recover the stolen gold is to find a number of men who were in prison with the thief and who carry the tracks tattooed on their own bodies. He says that this is the only way to find the gold. But Hokkaido is a harsh region, and its nature is unrelenting; therefore, while you are still debating whether or not such a story is anything more than a Chinese fable, you will have to fight to protect your life from a massive bear; and the Ainu girl who will come to your rescue is one who seems to know something about the story that was told by the elderly man.
