Jack Taylor is an Irish television drama based on Ken Bruen's series of novels. Set in Galway, the series stars Iain Glen as Jack Taylor, a former Garda Sochána officer who becomes a "finder" after quitting the force. Taylor is a man who looks for hints where others haven't. He also knows his hometown's streets like the back of his hand. The series premiered on TV3 in Ireland on August 2, 2010, and was afterwards carried on Canvas in Belgium with Dutch subtitles. It premiered on Channel 5 in the UK on February 21, 2013. The series was also released on DVD. Critics have given it mixed reviews. Glen's voiceovers, according to Bernice Harrison of The Irish Times, ruined the series by giving the character a noir air. The first episode's powerful opening sequence, according to David Stephenson of the Daily Express, had hooked him. In an interview with The Guardian's Laura Barnett, a real-life private investigator noted that while he enjoyed the show, it did not always reflect his profession accurately.
