The Jonas Brothers star in the Disney Channel Original Series Jonas, which was formerly known as "J.O.N.A.S." The show was created by Roger S. H. Schulman and Michael Curtis and features the Jonas Brothers. The brothers give the impression of being the "Lucas Brothers," which are the three members of the fictitious band "JONAS" who want to maintain a normal life despite their notoriety. The series was put on hold because of the strike that the Writers Guild of America was involved in from 2007 to 2008. Filming of the pilot took place in 2007. The production was scheduled to begin in January2008, however the date was ultimately moved to September of that same year. The first episode of the series aired on May 2, 2009, on Disney Channel, and it was made available on demand beginning April 25, 2009. Since Phil of the Future, JONAS is the first Disney Channel Original Series (DCOS) not to be filmed in front of a live studio audience or to have a laugh track. Additionally, it is the first DCOS not to feature a laugh track. The series was the first on the network to premiere on a Saturday night; this was done intentionally by Disney as part of a goal to open up the night to original programming and to compete with Nickelodeon's customary dominance of the evening. Although it takes place in New Jersey, the series is filmed at Hollywood Center Studios.
