The creators of Masters of Horror also created Masters of Science Fiction, an American television anthology series. The four-episode series premiered on ABC on August 4, 2007 at 10 p.m. for a four-episode run. It was initially planned to be broadcast in six parts, but two episodes were cut for unclear reasons. The show follows the same pattern as Masters of Horror, with each hour-long episode consisting of a single short film adaptation of a story by a well-known member of the science fiction community, hence the moniker "Masters." The show was picked up by Space in Canada in December 2007. This allowed for the premiere of the two missing episodes in North America. On August5,2008, a Region 1 DVD containing all six episodes was released. Beginning with the first domestic airing of the episode "Watchbirds" on February12,2012, the Science Channel began airing the episodes under the title "Stephen Hawking's Sci-Fi Masters." Physicist Stephen Hawking hosts the show off-screen.
