Meet the Press is a weekly American news and interview show broadcast on NBC. It is the longest-running television series in American broadcasting history, despite retaining little relation to the format of the program when it first aired on television on November 6, 1947. Sunday morning discussion shows on American television had the greatest ratings on Meet the Press. Beginning with Martha Rountree, eleven moderators have hosted this forum. David Gregory is the current host, having assumed the position in December 2008. The show began using a new set on May 2, 2010, with video screens and a library-style set with bookshelves, as well as different, modified intro music, with David Gregory previewing the guests using a large video screen, and with the Meet the Press theme music in a shorter "modernized [style]... the beginning repeated with drums." Meet the Press and other such programs focus on interviewing national leaders on political, economic, international, and other public concerns. In the past few years, the typical time slot for the program on the NBC network has been between 9 and 10 a.m. local time in most cities, however this may vary by market due to affiliates' obligations to religious, E/I, or local news and public affairs programming. NBC Sports' morning coverage of the French Open tennis tournament or the Monaco Grand Prix causes it to fluctuate by several weeks during the summer. Previously, the program would air every Sunday at 12:00. The program is also repeated on MSNBC on Sundays at 2 p.m. ET and early Monday mornings at 4 a.m. ET, as well as early Monday mornings as part of NBC's "All Night" roster. The program is also syndicated to radio stations by Dial Global and broadcast during C-SPAN Radio's rebroadcast of Sunday morning talk shows.
