Paris

Paris is an American TV show that ran from September 29, 1979, to January 15, 1980, on the CBS network. The crime drama is notable because it was the first time that famous actor James Earl Jones played the lead role in a TV show. It was created by Steven Bochco, who later became famous for Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue. Bochco also served as the show's executive producer. The show was about a police captain in Los Angeles named Woody Paris. He was in charge of a group of young detectives. Sergeant Stacy Erickson was in charge of the new investigators, who were made up of officers Charlie Bogart, Ernesto Villas, and Willie Miller. Hank Garrett played Paris' boss, Deputy Chief Jerome Bench. His home life and life outside of work were given a lot of attention in the plots, which was unusual for police dramas of the time. Lee Chamberlain played his wife, Barbara. Paris was also shown teaching criminology at a nearby university as a side job. Critics liked how Paris showed the tension between the professional Paris character and his often impulsive subordinates, but CBS put the show on Saturdays at 10 p.m./9 Central, which is one of the worst times for a weekly show. In that time slot, all three networks started new shows for the 1979–1980 season. Only ABC's Hart to Hart made it through the first 13 weeks. Near the end of its run, CBS moved it to Tuesdays at10/9, but that didn't help. Edward DeBlasio made the show for MTM Enterprises, which would show Bochco's groundbreaking Hill Street Blues on NBC during the next season.
