Richard Benjamin stars in Quark, an NBC science fiction situation comedy. On May7,1977, the pilot aired, and the series premiered in February 1978 as a mid-season replacement. In April of1978, the show was canceled. Buck Henry, who also created the spy comedy Get Smart, created Quark. The episode took place in the year 2226 aboard a United Galaxy Sanitation Patrol Cruiser, an intergalactic waste scow based at United Galaxies Space Station Perma One. The main character, Adam Quark, works with his dependable and quirky team to clean up rubbish in space by collecting "space baggies." Quark mocked Star Wars,2001: A Space Odyssey, and Flash Gordon during its brief existence. Three of the episodes were direct spoofs of Star Trek. Grady Hunt's work in the episode "All the Emperor's Quasi-Norms, Part2" earned the series an Emmy nomination for costume design. On October14,2008, a DVD with the entire series was released.
