Mockumentary techniques are used to illustrate the fictional, reality-show style exploits of enthusiastic professional critic Forrest MacNeil, who runs a TV show called "Review" in which he engages in whatever life experience his fans ask him to, in order to determine if it is "any good". Then Forrest gives a star rating out of one to five for each of the life experiences he's heard about. Compulsion and unwavering commitment to the show, however, unexpectedly backfire in ways that continue to wreak havoc on Forrest's life when he's asked to review swindling, drug addictions, racial biases, divorce, and flight from the authorities.
