Robot Wars was a British game show based on the same-named American competition. From 1998 to 2003, it aired on BBC Two, with the last series airing on Channel 5 in 2003 and 2004. Additional series were produced for specialized segments of the global market, including two series of Robot Wars Extreme Warriors featuring U.S. competitors for the TNN network and two series of Dutch Robot Wars for distribution in the Netherlands. Joanie Laurer hosted the fourth series of the UK Robot Wars on TNN in 2002. The roboteers created The Fighting Robot Association in 2003 and continue to compete in tournaments for new audiences with the help of allied event organizers. The series pitted amateur and professional roboteers against each other in friendly and competition contests. They had to dodge the "House Robots," who did not have the same weight or weapon constraints as the participants. Robot Wars had a peak audience of 4 million people and was commercially successful.
