Slayers
Lina Inverse, a young witch whose existence revolves around food, treasure, and combat, is the protagonist of Slayers. After taking treasure from a bunch of bandits, Lina is ambushed by stragglers on her way to the next town. She is not in any serious danger, but a dimwitted but amiable swordsman named Gourry Gabriev still rushes to her aid. The two form an alliance and journey to Atlas City, battling enemies they find along the way. Lina and Gourry are unaware that they are being pursued by two unknown figures who are particularly interested in the "prize" they have taken. Myanimelist.com deserves credit for the summary.
