The American playwright Theresa Rebeck is responsible for the creation of the musical drama television series Smash, which was developed for NBC by Robert Greenblatt. One of the film's executive producers was the legendary Steven Spielberg. NBC was the company that was responsible for airing the series in the United States. DreamWorks Television and Universal Television were the companies that created it. The plot of the series centers on a fictitious theater community in New York City and, more especially, the production of a new musical on Broadway. It has a large ensemble cast, with the likes of Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Katharine McPhee, Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, and Anjelica Huston taking the lead roles. The show initially aired on February6,2012, and the final episode of its first season aired on May14, 2012. Its second and final season made its debut on February5,2013, and ran from that day until May26, 2013. In March of2013, NBC stated that they will be making some adjustments to their schedule, and the show was relocated to Saturdays beginning on April6, 2013. The series was officially canceled as of the 10th of May in 2013. In the event that the show is not picked up for a third season, second and final season executive producer and show runner Josh Safran has stated that the final episode of the second season might serve as the series finale. The series, and notably the first episode, was met with favorable reviews from critics. In addition to receiving 4 nominations, the first season was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. A Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series–Musical or Comedy, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, were also up for consideration for the show as well.
