Spooks: Code 9 is a counter-intelligence drama series that aired on BBC Three in 2008. Jane Tranter, who is in charge of BBC Fiction, wanted to make a spin-off of their long-running drama Spooks with a "more maverick, younger perspective" that would appeal to people aged 16 to 24. The series is about a group of six young new MI5 agents who "follow a different rule book." It was made by the independent production company Kudos and filmed in and around Leeds and Bradford. The first two episodes aired on BBC Three on 10 August 2008 and were shown again on the same channel on 11 August 2008. The decision to link the new project to the original Spooks was controversial. Actress Georgia Moffett said, "It's a little misleading in terms of the word Spooks." the producer Chris Fry saying "It's a completely new show. There are no characters or stories from other series, and most importantly, it takes place in a whole new world." After the first season was mostly a failure, the show's executive producer, Karen Wilson, said that many of the existing cast members were "contracted for another year" and listed ideas for what they could do in a second season.
