The Beverly Hillbillies is an American situation comedy that ran for nine seasons on CBS from 1962 to 1971. A poor backwoods family moves to Beverly Hills after finding oil on their land. A Filmways production produced by Paul Henning, it's the first "fish out of water" themed TV show and was followed by subsequent Henning-inspired CBS country-cousin series. In1963, Henning created Petticoat Junction and in1965, Green Acres. It inspired later culture-conflict shows including The Jeffersons, McCloud, The Nanny, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Doc. It was panned by reviewers but was a ratings hit for most of its nine-year run on CBS. The Beverly Hillbillies ranked among the top twenty most watched programs on television for eight of its nine seasons, twice as the number one series of the year, with a number of episodes among the most watched of all time. Fox remade the series in 1993 due to its success.
