The Cowboys

The Cowboys was a short-lived Western TV show that was based on the same-named John Wayne movie from 1972. From February 6 to May 8, 1974, it was shown on the American Broadcasting Company TV network. Jim Davis, Diana Douglas, Moses Gunn, A Martinez, Robert Carradine, and Clay O'Brien were some of the people who were on the TV show. The show was made by David Dortort, who is best known for making Bonanza and The High Chaparral. Like the movie, the TV show was about seven boys who worked on a ranch in New Mexico in the 1870s. The Cowboys started out as an hour-long show, but ABC cut it down to a half-hour format. The change in format didn't get more people to watch, so the show was canceled too soon. In "The Indian Givers," Cal Bellini played Wa-Cha-Ka. In "Death on a Fast Horse," Kevin Hagen played Josh Redding, and in "Many a Good Horse Died," Lurene Tuttle played Grandma Jesse.
