Stef Foster, a committed police officer, and her partner, school vice principal Lena Adams, have established a close-knit, loving family with Stef's biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon, and their adopted twins, Mariana and Jesus. When Lena meets Callie, a hardened youngster with a violent history who has spent her life in and out of foster homes, her life is upended in unforeseen ways. Callie and her brother, Jude, are welcomed into Lena and Stef's house, thinking it will only be for a few weeks until a more permanent placement can be found. But the Fosters are in for a surprise.
