Dan Stark and his partner, Frank Savage, were big-shot Dallas detectives in the 1970s. They were hailed as American heroes after saving the Governor's son. Dan Stark is a washed-up investigator who spends most of his time intoxicated or reminiscing about his glory days thirty years later. Dan's new colleague, Jack Bailey, is an ambitious, by-the-book, and overall good investigator, although he can be a little too caustic at times. His tendency of undercutting himself has earned him a dead-end job in the department, where he is forced to solve tiresome petty theft cases that no one else wants. Worse, he's been assigned the unenviable chore of watching Dan, the drunk pariah who never seems to retain partners for long.
