The Hospital is a 2006 Taiwanese drama starring Jerry Yan, Leon Dai, Janine Chang, Zhang Guozhu, Ng Man Tat and Tang Zhiping. It was made by Yang Ming International Production, and Cài Yuè Xun was in charge of the direction. The series has 39 episodes that are each 60 minutes long. It was shown on China Television from August 15 to October 6, 2006, at 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Hospital is based on the same-titled Chinese novel written by Taiwanese author Hou Wenyong in 2000. It shows the struggle for power and prestige in a hospital in Taiwan that is part of a national university, as well as the relationships between people in the community. Because the title and setting are similar, Hou's book is often compared to the Japanese book Shiroi Kyot, which was written by Toyoko Yamasaki. In Asia, both books have been turned into TV shows. At the 42nd Golden Bell Prizes in 2007, the drama was nominated for eight awards and won Best Directing for a Television Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series.
