The Lieutenant

The Lieutenant is the first television series developed by Gene Roddenberry. During the 1963–1964 television season, it aired on NBC on Saturday evenings. Arena Productions, one of Metro-Goldwyn-most Mayer's successful in-house production businesses in the 1960s, produced the film. The Lieutenant is set at Camp Pendleton, the United States Marine Corps' West Coast outpost, and focuses on the members of the Corps in peacetime against a Cold War backdrop. Second Lieutenant William Tiberius Rice, a rifle platoon leader and one of Camp Pendleton's training instructors, plays the title character. The Lieutenant, an hour-long drama, delves into the lives of both enlisted Marines and senior commanders. On August14,2012, the Warner Archive Collection released the series on DVD in two half-season sets.
