La Patrona is a telenovela produced by Telemundo Studios in Miami, Florida, and Argos Comunicación in Mexico. Written by José Ignacio Cabrujas, this opera is a remake of the Venezuelan telenovela La Duea. The name is derived from a local phrase or slang used in Mexico to refer to a person considered as the top manager. However, the term also reflects the protagonist's and the antagonist's battle to attain power, authority, and respect in a historically male-dominated profession.
