The novels in the 'Women's Murder Club' series written by James Patterson serve as the basis for this television show, which takes place in San Francisco, California, in the United States. Alongside Patterson, Joe Simpson, Brett Ratner, and R. Scott Gemmill, the creators of the series, Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, also acted as executive producers for the project. Two weeks after the show was on the verge of being canceled, on February 23, 2008, it was announced that the show would return in late April with three episodes. This happened just two weeks after the show was almost canceled. It was announced on March 31, 2008 that Women's Murder Club would return with three new episodes beginning on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 10:00PM Eastern/9:00PM Central, replacing Boston Legal in its regular time slot. The premiere of these episodes would take place at 10:00PM Eastern/9:00PM Central. The news that the show would not be continuing into a second season was officially announced by ABC Television on May 12, 2008.
