A Very Long Engagement

Mathilde was 19 years old in 1919. Manech left for the Somme two years earlier. He was "died in battle" like millions others. The official notice says so in black and white. Mathilde disagrees. She'd know if Manech died. She clings to her intuition as the final hope binding her to her boyfriend. A former soldier tells her that Manech died in Bingo Crepescule with four other men who self-inflicted wounds. Mathilde isn't afraid of the hurdles ahead. Whoever challenges fate can do anything.
