Nick Charles, a private investigator, and his socialite wife, Nora, are called back into action after Nora's cousin, Selma, reports her husband Robert missing. Selma's friend David Graham, who has a secret crush on her, lends his assistance to the couple as they search for the shady Robert. Eventually, as the three of them begin to piece together Robert's private existence, the missing persons investigation develops into a murder investigation.
