When Nick Davis is released from jail after a year of solitude, he is hired to operate a forklift in a warehouse in the port owned by Isshin Tendo, the Japanese Yakuza patriarch. The establishment is attacked by the Italian Mafia, led by Dino Campanela, and Nick rescues and saves Shuji Sawamoto, the Yakuza's representative in America. After Nick takes the oath to join the Yakuza, Shuji recruits him and becomes his godfather in the family. Nick, on the other hand, is a lone FBI undercover agent tasked with penetrating the criminal organization. When the FBI learns that Campanela is plotting a big attack on the Yakuza, Nick's boss Littman cancels the operation in order to delegate the dirty work to the Italian Mafia. However, Nick's relationship with Shuji and his goddaughter Yuko compels him to assist his Japanese family.
