An Impudent Girl

Charlotte Castang is a 13-year-old working-class girl who lives in a run-down neighborhood and is eager to become an adult. Her mother died while giving birth to her, and she now lives with her obnoxious brother and a father who is preoccupied with something else. Lulu, a sick 10-year-old whom she considers a nuisance, is her only companion. Charlotte is antisocial, bored, and yearns for a better life. When she meets Clara Bauman, a pianist prodigy, her life improves.
