The tale of a beast with a kind heart who falls in love with a plain yet stunningly attractive girl. She finds herself captivated to the repulsive but yet fascinating Beast, who puts her faithfulness to the test by handing her a key and warning her that he will die of anguish if she does not return it to him by a certain time. She is unable to return the key in the allotted amount of time, but it turns out that the Beast is the one who is actually quite gorgeous. A straightforward story of an unhappy love that develops into a dreamlike vision of death, longing, and beauty.
