After shooting down Francis Gary Powers' U-2 espionage plane during the Cold War, the Soviet Union captures him. Powers' sole hope is New York lawyer James Donovan, who was hired by a CIA officer to help him negotiate his release. Donovan boarded an aircraft bound for Berlin in the hopes of securing the young man's release through a prisoner swap. If everything goes according to plan, the Russians will apprehend Rudolf Abel, a convicted spy whom Donovan defended in court.
