In 1818, the vivacious young Fanny Brawne finds herself becoming increasingly intrigued by the gorgeous but aloof poet John Keats, who happens to reside next door to her family's friends the Dilkes, who are also her neighbors. As a result of reading a collection of his poems, she finds herself even more attracted to the reserved Keats. While agreeing to teach her about poetry, Keats is unable to act on his affections for Fanny since he does not have the financial means to maintain a wife while working as a failing poet.
