Two chicks are raised by the eagle in its traditional manner. The stronger will always be able to kick the weaker out of the nest. Man, too, has his own methods for hurting those closest to him. Since the death of his wife, Lukas' father has retreated, leaving him to bear the brunt of his son's grief. While trying to save a newborn, the boy was killed and now bears the responsibility for her death. ...and thus it begins in the nest with our eagle! The strongest chick is pushed to the forest floor by its weaker, first-born brother. But fate intervenes, and Lukas discovers the chick in the bushes. Lukas secretly raises the creature, whom he names Abel, in the hope of finding the love and companionship he lacks at home. The day approaches when Abel will be released into the wild; will Lukas be able to establish a new life?
