Copying Beethoven

A fictionalized account of Beethoven's life while he worked on his Ninth Symphony in his final days. The year is 1824. Beethoven is frantically completing his new symphony. His last accomplishment, however, was years ago, and he now suffers from deafness, loneliness, and emotional pain. A copyist is required immediately to assist the composer. Anna Holtz, a young conservatory student and aspiring composer, is introduced as a fictional character. Beethoven, who is prone to mood swings, is initially dubious of a woman's involvement in his masterwork, but eventually comes to trust Anna's assistance and grows fond of her. Her presence in his life is an absolute need by the time the work is performed. Her deep comprehension of his work extends to correcting his errors, and her passionate personality allows her access to his inner life.
