A British surgeon in the 1840s experimented with anesthetic gases to make surgery less painful. In the process, his patient awakens beneath the knife, forcing him to quit his position in disgrace before a panel of peers. To make matters worse, Johnny develops a gas addiction and joins a gang commanded by Black Ben and his henchman Resurrection Joe (pictured).
