2053 has passed. Although space travel has become more exclusive, accidents are more likely as travel increases. As a result, CR, or Cosmic Rescue, was formed by the insurance companies of the world. The mission of CR is to rescue anyone hurt in interstellar collisions and remove the hazardous flying debris from earlier collisions that endangers other spacecraft. CR Shift Division 89 is led by Nanjou Satoshi. They spend their days doing the rather simple task of clearing debris along with Sawada Azuma, the hot-headed rookie, and Eguchi Ryo, his dependable mechanic. Azuma then comes across a young girl's distress beacon one day. The ship vanishes from their radar as the crew of the #89 rushes to the location, and they soon discover that CR has released them. But what happened to the girl and the ship? Was everything just in Azuma's head? The ship vanished, right? Or was it kept secret? More than only their jobs could be lost as a result of the responses.
