Cousin Bette
Cousin Bette is a poor and lonely seamstress who, following the death of her prominent and wealthy sister, attempts to integrate herself into the lives of her brother-in-law, Baron Hulot, and her niece, Hortense Hulot. Instead, after failing to do so, she finds solace and company in the form of an attractive young sculptor whom she has saved from starving in the process. However, the promising artist eventually finds love in the arms of another lady, Hortense, leaving Bette a bitter spinster. Bette hatches a plan to exact vengeance on the family who turned her away and took away her one and only love. With the assistance of renowned courtesan Jenny Cadine, she gently but steadily destroys the lives of people who have despised and rejected her.
