DAU. Natasha
Natasha is in charge of the canteen at a top-secret Soviet research facility from the 1950s. This is the pulsing center of the DAU world, and it is where everyone congregates: institute personnel, scientists, and visiting foreign guests alike. Natasha's world is a tiny one, divided between the responsibilities of the cafeteria during the day and the alcohol-fueled nights she spends with her younger coworker Olga, during which the two confide their hopes for romance and a different future in one another. Natasha meets Luc Bige, a visiting French scientist, at a party one evening and the two end up sleeping together. Following that, she is summoned to a KGB questioning by General Vladimir Azhippo, who probes her about the nature of her relationship with the foreign visitor. Her life takes a drastic turn the following day.
