When the elevators in a New York City building start breaking for no apparent reason, putting passengers in danger, mechanic Mark Newman (James Marshall) and reporter Jennifer Evans (Naomi Watts) launch separate investigations. Superiors at Newman's business, which developed the elevator, oppose him, and subsequent elevator incidents result in several horrible deaths. The cops are called in and suspect terrorists, but there's a much stranger explanation in the works.
