John Mills plays a farmer who enjoys a good drink, but his farm is in disarray. He meets Dulcima, a young girl who takes pity on him and works as his cleaner. He's glad to have some company, and she needs to earn some money. He finds himself falling for her, but things become complicated when she begins seeing the gamekeeper. However, one day she discovers the farmer is a very wealthy man and decides she wants to be with him after all, but she can't stop seeing the gamekeeper...and the farmer discovers this.
