In 1971, George Khan runs a fish-and-chip shop in Salford. He wants his family to follow the strict Pakistani Muslim ways he was raised with. But his children, who have an English mother and were born and raised in Britain, start to think of themselves as British and reject their father's rules about how to dress, what to eat, what religion to follow, and how to live in general.
