Exorcist: The Beginning

Father Lankester Merrin went through traumatic things during WWII, so he takes a break from the Church to do archaeological digs in East Africa, which was under British control at the time. Merrin finds an old Byzantine church that people think was built and then buried right away to keep evil away from the crypt below. The locals think that finding the church has let out a demon, so they start fighting with the British military troops. As the village quickly falls apart into chaos and war, Merrin must fight the demon that has taken over someone close to him.
