Ben Holmes, a professional who writes blurbs for book jackets, is attempting to make it to Savannah in time for his wedding. But just as the plane is about to take off, a seagull jumps into the engine, and he misses the flight by the narrowest of margins. Due to the fact that all subsequent flights have been canceled because of the approaching hurricane, he is compelled to hitch a ride in a Geo Metro with a woman named Sara who is attractive but odd.
